RIDE TAKES APPROX. 1½ HRS
Ride on board the footplate with the steam locomotive crew for a 20 mile return journey and experience the
thrill of the sights, sounds, smell and
heat of the footplate.
Choose from a selection of departure times from Alresford or Alton Stations. The perfect taster experience with a maximum of 1 participant on a ride.
The locomotive crew is on hand to answer questions and point out various points of interest during your journey.

DRIVING & FIRING EXPERIENCES
INTRODUCTORY DRIVING & FIRING EXPERIENCE £250
3 HOURS MAX. DURATION
Your experience begins at 9:30am or 1pm at Alresford station with a warm welcome from your instructor. A safety briefing, information about the line and signalling. You are then shown to the footplate where full instructions on the driving controls, firing techniques and other locomotive operating requirements are given.
Then, taking turns with 2 other participants, you will become the driver and fireman!
ADVANCED DRIVING & FIRING EXPERIENCE £400
7 HOURS APPROX DURATION
This really is the ultimate footplate experience! Starting at 9am at Alresford station, you will be in control of one of our larger steam locomotives hauling a train of carriages along the full length of our steeply graded line.
Under the instruction of our highly experienced crew, you will be paired with another participant to take turns as both driver and fireman during the day, completing a 10 mile trip in each role.
When not on the footplate you will assist the guard, help with coupling and other areas of importance. As you are able to invite up to 3 guests to travel on the train during your experience, you will also have the opportunity to join them on board the train for refreshments.
A lunch is provided for the participant in the West Country Buffet at Alresford station.
Whilst this is our advanced experience, it can be attended by ‘first timers’ too.
DIESEL DRIVING EXPERIENCES
The cab awaits! Drive one of our diesel locomotives or DMUs and experience the thrill of raw power at your fingertips. These experiences can be completely tailored to your budget and requirements. Call Reservations to discuss the possibilities available.
SIGNAL BOX EXPERIENCES
We also offer the opportunity to be a signalman with half and full day experiences. Command the line!
Join one of our experienced signalmen in as signal box or boxes of your choosing and throw the levers, setting signals, points and issuing the single line token. These experiences can be tailored to your budget and requirements. Call reservations to discuss the possibilities available.
